Monetization on TikTok can be broken down into two main categories: Creator Next and TikTok Series. Let’s start by running through the different ways you monetize within Creator Next.
TikTok Creator Fund
The TikTok Creator Fund was TikTok’s original monetization opportunity, designed to reward creators for creating high quality & engaging content.
However it’s currently being phased out for bigger and better things.
So while it is currently a monetization option, if you’re not already a part of this program you won’t be able to cash in on it.
TikTok hasn’t actually disclosed how much it pays TikTok Creator Fund users but some TikTok influencers have been openly disappointed. Creators have reported being paid around two to four cents per 1,000 views.
The Creator Fund was also only available to eligible TikTok users in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France and Spain.
So overall, you’ve probably heard of this program but unless you’re already a part of it – you won’t be able to join the TikTok Creator Fund.
Creativity Program Beta
The Creativity Program is a new program that’s currently in beta.
It was rolled out after complaints that creators weren’t making enough from the original Creator Fund.
In fact, the key difference between the Creator Fund and the Creativity Program is that the new one is supposed to pay a lot more.
TikTok have said creators have the potential to earn 20 times the amount compared to the TikTok Creator Fund earnings.
So, what types of videos does TikTok want you to post as part of their Creativity Program?
The top thing they’ve mentioned here is that videos have to be over a minute long. This seems like TikTok are encouraging creators to make longer form content, which makes us wonder if they’re trying to compete with YouTube…
Another thing to keep in mind is that this program is currently only available for creators based in the United States.
Creativity Program Eligibility Requirements
There are a few requirements to be eligible for this program:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have at least 10,000 followers
- Have at least 100,000 video views in the last 30 days
Unfortunately Business TikTok accounts are not accepted and as we mentioned earlier, you need to be based in the U.S.
Apparently the program will be rolled out in France and Brazil in the near future, so keep an eye out for this!
TikTok Creator Marketplace
The TikTok Creator Marketplace (also known as TCM) is the official platform for brand and creator collaborations on TikTok.
It’s a place where brands can find you and you can find brands to create videos and earn some extra money.
It gives you all the details on what brands are looking for in their deals, you can negotiate on prices and when you upload a video you can link directly to that brand deal.
Basically it means that everything is coordinated within TikTok itself, making everything really straightforward.
This is awesome because brand deals can get a bit painful with all the back and forth. So it’s great that TikTok has made this super easy with the Creator Marketplace.
TikTok Live & Video Gifts
TikTok Live and video gifts are another great option when it comes to TikTok monetization. Our resident TikTok superstar, Jordana Grace, is a huge fan of these and regularly uses them on her TikTok account.
So what are these virtual gifts and how do they work?
On TikTok, users can buy coins. When you go live on TikTok, your viewers can buy you a virtual gift during that Live using their coins.
At the end of the Live, TikTok collates the gifts and converts those into diamonds (TikTok’s digital currency) which is converted into TikTok cash in your TikTok wallet which can be converted into real life money.
You do have to wait until your TikTok wallet hits a certain threshold and then you can take out the amount as vouchers or cash.
It is a bit complicated, but it makes for a fun way for viewers to support their favorite creators.
TikTok Live & Video Gifts Requirements
To be eligible for video gifts on TikTok, you’ll need to adhere to the following requirements:
- Live in a location where video gifts are available
- Be 18 years or older
- Have at least 10,000 followers and your account must be at least 30 days old
- Have published a public video in the last 30 days
- Have an account in good standing
- Have a Personal account
How to Turn On TikTok Video Gifts
If you meet those requirements and you’re ready to start making money with TikTok gifts, here’s how to turn the feature on.
Make sure you’re logged into your TikTok account and then in your TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
Go to Menu at the top and tap Creator Tools. From there select Video Gifts. Set the Gifts setting to on, review the requirements and select Turn on Gifts.
How to Make Money on TikTok Tips
Another TikTok monetization option is TikTok Tips. This feature allows your viewers to send tips to you directly through your TikTok profile.
The best part? Creators get to keep 100% of the top amount (after processing fees!).
This is great because even though receiving gifts and diamonds sounds like a lot of fun, content creators don’t actually earn that much through this method.
So tipping is a more lucrative monetization option.

You can apply to receive tips on TikTok if you meet these requirements:
- Live in a location where Tips is available
- Be 18 years or older
- Have at least 100,000 followers
- Have a Personal account
- Have an account that’s in good standing
How to Apply To Receive Tips on TikTok
If you’re eligible and want to apply to receive TikTok Tips, here’s how you do it.
In the TikTok app, go to Profile at the bottom. Then go to Menu at the top and tap Creator Tools. From here, select Tips and go to Apply.
Then just follow the onscreen instructions and keep in mind that if you don’t have one already you’ll need to set up a Stripe account.
So that’s all the ways you can monetize on TikTok within Creator Next. The other way you can make money on TikTok is with TikTok Series.
How to Make Money from TikTok Series
There’s another NEW way to make money on TikTok and that’s with TikTok series.
Because this is a new feature on TikTok, we highly recommend checking it out as TikTok is always going to push their latest feature.
So, what is TikTok Series?
This is very similar to platforms like Skillshare and Patreon. You can basically sell a Series of content on TikTok.
For example, our resident TikToker, Jordana Grace, is known as That British Girl on TikTok. Her content is about things you should know about when traveling to Australia.
She can create new content or use her current content in Series relevant to this niche.
This could include things like the best cafes to check out or the best places to visit. That content can be put in a Series that can be sold on TikTok.
Each Series can include up to 80 videos, with each video ranging from 30 seconds to 20 minutes in length.
Viewers can gain access to the Series by purchasing it from TikTok through direct in-video links or via your profile.
The best part is that creators can select the prices for each of their Series. So TikTok has done the hard work by setting everything up, and you get to decide on the price amount, how many videos you include and the length of those videos.
How to Get Paid on TikTok Series
You need to have earned an accumulated amount of at least $50 to be paid out. Then payment will be sent to you automatically on the 15th of each month.
TikTok Series Eligibility Requirements
Sounds pretty good, right! So, what do you need to be eligible for this feature?
- Be 18 years or older
- Have an account that’s at least 30 days old
- Have a Personal account
- Have posted at least three public posts in the past 30 days
- Reach 1,000 views in the past 30 days
- Post original content (you can’t use other creator’s content)
- Have an account that’s in good standing
