This is the very first step in your TikTok marketing strategy. 

The best part is, you can use TikTok as a tool to help you do your own keyword research. 

TikTok is a search engine, just like YouTube for example. Its job is to get the right content in front of the right people at the right time. 

So let’s jump over to TikTok and take a look. 

PRO TIP: We prefer using the mobile app instead of the desktop TikTok app version as we’ve found there’s more on the mobile version.

Do some keyword research to find out what your target audience is searching for

When you start searching for something in the search bar, all of those suggested searches are terms that TikTok users are searching for. So this is a great place to go for content ideas and keywords. 

If you scroll down, you’ll also see a section called Others Searched For. This gives you even more phrases and keywords that TikTok users are searching for. 

All of these keywords, phrases and terms are things you want to create content around and also optimize that content for.

Step #2: Content Creation with TikTok SEO

Now that you’ve got your list of keywords, the next step in your TikTok marketing strategy is to create content on each of those topics. 

When planning your video, you want to include those keywords in several areas: 

  • The first sentence of your video 
  • The title of your video 
  • The description of your video

After you’ve found your keywords, you need to optimize your content for them

Now you’ve optimized your content for the target keywords. This is exactly how you get your videos ranking highly on TikTok and even Google! 

If you’re new to making TikTok videos, it can feel daunting to get started. But just remember, the only way your video creation is going to get better is with practice! 

Your first few videos likely won’t be incredible, and that’s okay. You don’t need to be perfect, you just need to get started.

By optimizing for your keyword, you have a better chance of ranking highly when people search for it! 

Step #3: Rinse & Repeat Your TikTok Marketing Strategy

Now you’ve created a TikTok video that’s optimized for your target keyword – nice work! 

The next step is to do this again and again and … again! 

Continue doing keyword research, creating content that’s optimized for those keywords and build out a library of content that your TikTok community is searching for. 

Then you can review your content to see what’s working. This is what our resident TikToker, The Jordana Grace, calls The One Month Experiment. 

Say you’ve posted 3-5 videos per week for a month. At the end of that month, you need to check out your TikTok analytics and ask the following questions: 

  • Which videos were the most popular?
  • Which videos didn’t work well?
  • How many people viewed them?
  • How many people liked them?

An important element of your TikTok marketing strategy is to review the content you’ve created

Once you’ve figured this out, you can create more of the content that worked well and less of the content that didn’t work well. 

For example, The Jordana Grace, found that her most popular videos were around ‘Things They Should Tell You Before Traveling To Australia’. So now she knows to create more videos on this topic. 

She used this strategy to make over 800 videos (so far!) and they’ve consistently been successful for her. This style of video proved really popular with her audience, and now people go to her specifically for that content.

So over time, you’ll start to get a really good idea of what type of content your TikTok audience wants. But it’s a good idea to continue to do this review every month so you can stay on top of any changes. 

You need to find what works for you – what your target audience is looking for and what they’ll keep coming back to you for. 

Then repeat this process and watch as your TikTok account grows your business and brand!
