Best iPhone Microphone (& Android): RODE vs iRig vs BOYA Lavalier Mics!
iPhone and Android Smartphones are awesome tools for creating video content. They’re incredibly convenient, plus the camera quality in the latest phones is great – and it’s only getting better! The biggest issue, however, is that most people tend to rely too much on the internal microphones (or a set of headphones) and the resulting audio can massively degrade the quality of any videos…
Fortunately, there are a number of options to easily (and cheaply!) get great audio right from your iPhone or Android device. I’ve spoken about Lavalier Microphones and the benefits of using them a lot in past videos, but there are a lot of options out there and it can be difficult to know where to start…
In this video we look at the top Lav Mics for Smartphones: the iRig Mic Lav, RODE SmartLav+ and BOYA BY-M1. We’ll take you through a quick comparison and my thoughts on each, as well as my recommendation for the BEST iPhone Microphone (and Android!)
NOTE: If you’re using a Lavalier Microphone, it’s important to mount it correctly to get the best results… Don’t worry, it’s incredibly easy to do! You just need 30 seconds and some Duct tape – Check out this video for the full run-through.
